FLAGS (First Light and galaxy Assembly) is a research project dedicated to unraveling the transition from the cosmic ‘dark ages’ to ‘cosmic dawn’ (between 400,000 years and 1 billion years after the Big Bang), an era marked by the birth of the first stars (Pop III), early galaxies, and the reionization of the intergalactic medium. By combining advanced theoretical modeling of low-metallicity star formation with high-redshift observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the team aims to characterize primeval stellar populations and quantify chemical and dust enrichment in the early Universe, with a commitment to promptly releasing data and simulations to the community.
Full details regarding the research activities, scientific data, and project outcomes are available on the dedicated project website.
